As part of a pilot arts program, the Oklahoma Arts Council and the Norman Veterans Center teamed up to provide a creative writing course for veterans.

For veterans like Bill O’Pecko, writing was a meaningful strategy for engaging with lingering and difficult memories of war.

“War can be real, real, real, real bad, I tell you. … It just sunk in my head, and it just never left,” O’Pecko said. “I tried to write it so somebody else might think what it might have been … and I just put it down on paper.” – Bill O’Pecko
